DHAKA, 7 May 2026 – To further cultivate a campus environment rooted in safety, equality, and mutual respect, North South University (NSU) hosted a comprehensive two-day faculty workshop on 5–6 May 2026.
The training program, titled “Fostering Respectful Workplaces: Awareness of Sexual Harassment and Gender Equity,” targeted systemic awareness and proactive culture-building among the university's academic staff.
The event was organized and executed by NSU’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Delivering the opening welcome address, Dr. Halimur R. Khan, Director of IQAC, emphasized the vital role of continuous institutional dialogue on harassment prevention.
He firmly reiterated NSU’s strict zero-tolerance policy toward any form of discrimination or misconduct, adding that this workshop marks the rollout of a recurring series of capacity-building initiatives designed to secure a safe and inclusive professional space.
University Leadership Emphasizes Daily Accountability and Ethics
The workshop series was officially inaugurated by a senior delegation of NSU leadership, including:
Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor
Professor Dr. Nasar U. Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor
Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer
During his inaugural remarks, Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury called upon the faculty to deeply engage with these initiatives, highlighting how vital educator participation is to reinforcing a supportive academic community.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasar U. Ahmed focused his address on long-term institutional accountability, noting that sustained institutional dedication is fundamental to preserving gender equity and high ethical standards.
Underscoring the practical application of these values, Treasurer Professor Abdur Rob Khan reminded the attendees:
“A respectful workplace is not created through policies alone. It is created through everyday actions—through how we speak, how we behave, how we respond to others, and how we uphold the dignity of those around us.”
Case Studies and Peer Collaboration Drive the Sessions
The interactive training modules were led by two expert facilitators: Dr. Nova Ahmed, Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at NSU, and Dr. Abantee Harun, Assistant Professor at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and dedicated social activist.
Departing from conventional lecture formats, the two-day curriculum merged informative presentations with real-life case discussions and collaborative group exercises. The coursework encouraged faculty members to actively analyze workplace challenges and implement best practices regarding:
Identifying and preventing sexual harassment
Advancing institutional gender parity
Professional conduct and ethical workplace boundaries
Shared responsibilities in keeping a secure campus environment
The workshop wrapped up on both days with a formal presentation of honorary crests to the facilitators—awarded to Professor Nova Ahmed on the first day and Professor Abantee Harun on the second day—in appreciation of their leadership and insight.
