Trump Rebuffs Iran’s Pakistani-Led Peace Overture as Tehran Responds to US War-Ending Proposal

TEHRAN / WASHINGTON — May 11, 2026: A major push to de-escalate the Middle East crisis faltered late Sunday after U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed Iran’s latest diplomatic response as "TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!"

The exchange, conducted through Pakistani intermediaries, highlights a widening chasm between Washington’s demands and Tehran’s red lines.

The Core of the Proposal

Through the mediation of Islamabad, Iran reportedly signaled a willingness to negotiate a permanent end to the war, extending to the Lebanon-Israel front. According to sources familiar with the message, Tehran offered a compromise on its nuclear program by proposing to move its stockpile of highly enriched uranium to a third country.

However, the deal hit a wall over two non-negotiable points:

  1. Nuclear Infrastructure: Iran flatly rejected U.S. demands to dismantle its nuclear facilities.

  2. Maritime Blockade: Tehran insists on an immediate end to the U.S. naval blockade of its ports as a prerequisite for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Tensions Spike in the Persian Gulf

The diplomatic friction has been mirrored by increased military activity at sea. The United Arab Emirates reported intercepting two drones in its airspace, while a separate drone strike caused a fire on a merchant vessel near Qatar.

These incidents have placed global energy markets on edge. Qatar’s leadership warned that using the Strait of Hormuz as a "political lever" risks a global economic catastrophe.

In response to U.S. threats of renewed bombing, Iranian military officials stated their forces are on "full readiness" to protect nuclear storage sites from potential "infiltration or heli-borne operations."

Regional Conflict Intensifies

While diplomats trade messages, the ground reality remains grim:

  • Lebanese Front: Israeli airstrikes targeted several southern Lebanese towns on Sunday, resulting in at least 24 fatalities. Hezbollah retaliated with drone and missile strikes against Israeli armored columns, claiming to have disabled multiple vehicles.

  • Gaza Crisis: International aid agencies report a near-total collapse of the humanitarian grid in Gaza. Shortages of fuel and medical supplies have paralyzed local hospitals, leaving thousands of patients without life-saving care.

International Stance

European powers are attempting to navigate a middle path. French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking from Kenya, clarified that while France supports maritime security, it will not join a unilateral U.S. naval deployment.

Instead, Paris is calling for a broad international mission—one that ideally includes regional cooperation from Iran—to secure shipping lanes once a ceasefire is reached.

With President Trump accusing Tehran of "playing games" for half a century, the failure of this latest Pakistani-led initiative leaves the region in a precarious state of "maximum pressure" and military hair-triggers.
